Latest from FUMSNOW.COM A newly discovered source of information…

June 4, 2019 Off By Mike Delp

I have started receiving a newsletter each week with some interesting information and wanted to pass this along to everyone.  Kathy Reagan Young puts in her website

“I’m Kathy and I have MS. That sounds like I’m at an AA meeting! Let’s start again: I’m Kathy, I am a wife to TJ who is a golf pro, a mom to 2 teenage daughters (and all the fun that comes with that), a friend, a writer, a marketer, a reader, a crab eater, a beer and wine drinker (occasionally a Jameson drinker), a singer/songwriter, an activist and advocate and oh yeah, I have MS. I’m a patient who lost her patience. I’ve dealt with the symptoms, the flares, the indignities of life with MS – and I can still find a lot to laugh about. Attitude is everything, and my attitude is to talk to MS as it deserves: I give it the finger and say “FUMS” everyday! And I’m here to encourage everyone with MS to do the same thing. Cop an attitude. It’s empowering.”

Her site has a blog, and a podcast series.  The latest has been MS international.  She discusses insurance and living with MS in different countries.

Hello friends —

Previous Post.

My oldest daughter graduated this week. I can’t really believe it. I swear I just had that child. Guess I blinked. She is amazing and watching her walk across that stage to receive her diploma was bittersweet. I have 2 more months with her living at home and I’m going to make good use of my time. But – every Friday – I’ll stop whatever I’m doing with her – and I’ll put together the FUMS Friday Night 6-Pack!!

And here is this week’s:

1.  This summer I’m working on a digital course and membership community to help people in the chronic conditions community (that means YOU) find legit, flexible work, start their own online business and/or find patient advocacy gigs – called “Patients Getting Paid” that I hope to launch in the fall. Sign up for the email list and I’ll let you know when I launch! Sign up here: Patients Getting Paid

2.  Need a Lyft to your next doctor’s appointment??  In a partnership with the rideshare company LYFT, MS Focus is now offering assistance to get to medical appointments. Through their Transportation Assistance Grant program, MS Focus and Lyft can help with your transportation to and from appointments. MS Focus also will help with paratransit fees and minor car repairs. Read about it right here: Lyft Me Up

3.  I LOVE salt – how about YOU? I don’t have high blood pressure so I thought I was in the clear – then I read this article about the connection between a high salt diet and MS. UGH.Pass The Salt??

4.  Study identifies possible genetic causes of MS: It’s In Your Genes/Jeans?

5.  Startup company Oscine Therapeutics has received an investment from Sana Biotechnology to support the research and development of cell-based therapies for a variety of neurological disorders, including MS. Read about it here: Cell-Based Therapy for MS

6.  Have you ever considered surgery for any of your symptoms? Did you even know that was potentially an option? Here’s a good article all about it:  Surgery for MS

That’s all folks. Hope you learned something here today – especially something that will help you in your journey with MS.

If there is anything that I can do to help you, please, drop me an email and let me know at Kathy@FUMSnow.com or meet me over in the FUMS Facebook community and let’s chat!  Thanks.

Hello friends —

Summer has settled into southern Virginia – as in, it’s hot and humid as hell. UGH. So – I remain inside most of the time – except in the early morning or after sunset. Until Fall – then I come out of my hiding place and bask in the glory of being outside! While I’m inside this summer I’m going to add more products to the FUMS merch shop! I want to add some yoga mats, some shorts, some tee shirts and some hats – all with the FUMS logo on them and “#FUMS”. What do you think? Got other ideas you’d like to see in there? Let me know.  Meantime, check out what’s in that merch store now right: FUMS Merch

So – let’s get to it. Here’s the good stuff:

1.  I just published another blog post. This one is all about the dreaded Cog Fog. There are funny things and not so funny things that happen when Cog Fog strikes. Bet you can relate, right? Read that post right here – and PLEASE leave a comment on the site. It REALLY helps with Google rankings:  Cog Fog

2.  Did you listen to the podcast episode I did with Dr. Karin Hehenberger of Lyfebulb?Episode 33  She talked about the competition her company and Celegene had partnered together to sponsor, looking for innovation for unmet needs for patients living with MS. They’ve chosen their finalists and you can read all about them (super interesting and cool ideas) right here: Lyfebulb Moments

3.  Need a dose of inspiration? This woman is definitely an FUMS’er: Sylvia Longmire

4.  A molecule that helps blood clot may also play a role in multiple sclerosis relapses. We’re gaining on you bitch!  New Culprit for MS Relapses?!?!

5.  Researchers at Emory University found that low-grade inflammation can influence a person’s level of motivation. Imagine what HIGH GRADE INFLAMMATION like #MS can do!! Interesting article: Lack of Motivation

6.  How many of us have at least 1 root canal?? I have several. Watch this 2 minute trailer about how root canals could be at the “root” of our problems – and reply to this email and tell me your thoughts: Root Cause

That’s all folks.  Hope you find this newsletter helpful. If so, please share it with others. The more the merrier! Is there anything I can help you with?  Drop me an email and let me know at Kathy@FUMSnow.com or meet me over in the FUMS Facebook community and let’s chat!  Thanks.

Here is her latest newsletter.  Dated May 31, 2019

Hello friends —

So sorry this is late tonight. We’ve had an active shooter situation here in Virginia Beach. I can’t peel myself away from the news reports. It’s just
unbelievable. I can’t wrap my head around this. There are multiple
casualties. I’m listening to the news reports while I write this. I’m sick tomy stomach. But – I’ve promised this information to you every Friday so
that’s what I’m going to do.

1.  I published my latest FUMS Podcast episode today – the 5th in the
international series – where I interviewed several people with MS from
various countries about their diagnosis and treatment stories and what
their country’s healthcare system is like. This episode is with a wonderful man, Col Chandler, of Australia. Here’s the link: MS in Australia

2. Experts gathered in Seattle this week to put their smart-thinky heads together for the Consortium of MS Centers annual meeting. Read more
here: MS Centers Meeting

3.  A study shows that certain bacteria could actually treat Multiple
Sclerosis. WHAT?!?!  Read more here: Study Shows Certain Bacteria Could Treat MS

4.  I found this POV (point of view) article really moving. It is about one
woman’s fear of “ending up in a wheelchair” and how she overcame that fear. It’s a quick – and moving – read.  Chariots of Enlightenment

5.  This is a true feel-good story. It is about 2 people – a married couple –
both of which have MS! It is an unbelievable love story filled with
strength, humor, and LOVE. These 2 were my very first interview on the
FUMS Podcast Show ( listen here: Dan & Jennifer Digmann).  I now call
them my friends and People.com published a wonderful article about
them. Do yourself a favor – read this and pick up their book too “Despite MS, To Spite MS.”  Here is the article: How a Married Couple with MS Helps Others to Find Hope

6. Yesterday (Thursday, May 30th) was World MS Day – a day to share MS awareness and education all around the world. It was also my birthday. I asked people on the FUMS Facebook page to please gift me with sharing FUMS – sharing the website and the podcast –FUMS.com; sharing the
FUMS Facebook page and signing up themselves and sharing with their
friends, the opportunity to sign up for my upcoming digital course and
membership community called Patients Getting Paid – all about how to
find patient advocacy gigs, LEGIT work from anywhere jobs and how to
start an online business. I’d really appreciate it if you’d do the same. I
always welcome reviews on the podcast as well. Thanks so much.

So – that’s it. This has been a very difficult email to write with everything going on here. I hope you find value in this weekly email. Please forward it to friends who could benefit from it as well. If there is anything that I
can do to you help, please drop me an email at Kathy@FUMSnow.com or meet me over in the FUMS Facebook community and let’s chat!  Thanks.

Warmly —
